Rishworth is a school offering opportunities. Founded as long ago as 1724, it has a long and proud history. It is housed in a beautiful Georgian building to which modern additions have been made over the years.
Rishworth is an independent co-educational day and boarding school, drawing pupils from all over the U.K. and from overseas.
Today the school complex extends over 130 acres with a roll of 500, including 140 in the junior department and 100 in the sixth form. It boasts excellent facilities, including specialist accommodation for science, design and technology, computing and information technology, home economics, art and music. The Library provides an excellent resource centre for individual study, careers and the use of multi-media facilities. The multi-purpose assembly hall can seat up to 500 pupils and has facilities for drama and indoor games. The school also has a small specialist unit for children with dyslexia.
Facilities such as these, together with generous staffing ratios, have enabled Rishworth to provide a broad-based curriculum in which each pupil is encouraged to discover and realise his or her potential in a caring, secure and happy environment.
The pupils achieve excellent results in public examinations but as well as intellectual challenge in the classroom, creative fulfilment in music, art, drama and a wide range of extra-curricular activities is encouraged such as debating, the Radio Club, the Duke of Edinburgh's Award Scheme to name only a few.
Rishworth's latest development has been the recent completion of an outstanding new purpose-built Sports Hall with facilities for cricket, indoor hockey, 5-a-side football, volleyball, badminton, netball, tennis and a multi-gym. This is a valuable addition to the school's generous provision for sport and physical education which includes extensive playing fields, tennis and squash courts and an indoor heated swimming pool.
The junior department, Heathfield, has been completely refurbished with new Infant accommodation, nursery places for those aged 3 and specialist provision for computing, design technology, science, music and art at junior level.
As the Headmaster says, in a rapidly changing world young people need to be confident and adaptable and Rishworth School attempts to develop those attributes by always stressing the pursuit of excellence.
